VITSINIEKKA - Children's Songs by Pekka Nättinen

A selection of the best children’s songs spanning 26 years by a founding member of Loiskis. The composer surprises the audience, the orchestra — and even himself.

Pekka Nättinen is one of the founding members of Loiskis and has been a musician in the orchestra since its very beginning. Like the other members, he composes, arranges, and writes lyrics for the group’s repertoire. He has served as the orchestra’s conductor since 2005 and has been its Artistic Director since February 1, 2021.

Nättinen previously taught guitar, free accompaniment, and music theory at the Finnish Conservatory. Before Loiskis, he performed children’s music with ensembles such as Ohilyönti. As an ethnomusic enthusiast, Pekka has also played Finnish folk music as well as Balkan, Greek, and Irish music in various groups, including Tuulenkantajat, Ylärekisteriorkesteri, Enjabus, and the folk dance ensemble band Tason Inhoojat.

In 2008, Nättinen received the Jyväskylä Rural Municipality Art Award, and in 2011 he was awarded a six-month grant from the Central Finland Cultural Foundation. This support resulted in his solo album Usein kasvoin, which contributed to his selection as Musician of the Year in Central Finland in 2015. In 2025, he was also awarded Children’s Music Maker of the Year at the Jellona Gala on Children’s Music Day.

Lastenmusiikkiorkesteri Loiskis creates a captivating atmosphere in its concerts for both children and adults. Based in Jyväskylä, these versatile professionals of children’s music tour all across Finland, performing in daycares, schools, libraries, shopping centres, and events — on both small and large stages.

At the event, LastenLevykauppa.fi will sell Loiskis products, including the brand-new 25 album, the recently published Siksi oLi LoiskiS songbook and double album, as well as the book Siksi oli Loiskis – The First 25 Years of a Children’s Music Orchestra.
Concertgoers who purchase a record or book will receive a free Loiskis bucket as a bonus — perfect for making sandcastles in summer, ice lanterns in winter, helping in the garden in spring, or picking mushrooms in autumn… or even used as a drum, Loiskis-style! 📚💿✨
